Presentation of: TERRE BRIERE
Departing from the port of Chaussée Neuve in the commune of Saint-André-des-Eaux, the "Terre de Brière" route takes you on a 13.5km walk that can be completed on foot in around 3.5 hours, by mountain bike or even on horseback.
If possible, set off in the morning, before 9am. That's when the port wakes up, when the walkers get ready and go to fetch their horses. At full gallop, the animals arrive from the marshes and quickly set to work. It's a beautiful sight, and a perfect introduction to what's to come: almost no barriers (physical or visual),
From the port of La Chaussée Neuve, famous for its barges, you can reach a viewpoint overlooking the Brière with an orientation table. It's the ideal starting point for discovering the charms of the Brière, and for beginning your Brière walk.
This walk will then take you along the paths to discover the local heritage, where you'll discover thatched cottages with their whitewashed facades, as well as rogation crosses, wells and bread ovens.
On the way, you'll cross the port of Tréhé, another typical port in the Brière Regional Nature Park, also in the commune of Saint-André-des-Eaux. Here you can admire a "loge à chalands", a typical Brière construction used to house local boats.
All along this loop, you can enjoy the local flora and observe numerous species of birds, and perhaps catch a glimpse of the discreet Bittern, a marsh heron with large green legs that flies low over the reed beds.
This walk in the Brière is an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts. Take the opportunity to discover the local heritage and observe the birds in their natural habitat.
