Presentation of: Sentier de randonnee pedestre "en foret de Chambiers"
A family trail with a flat profile, mainly on forest paths. Suitable for
for occasional walkers.
When the walk becomes educational... Identify the different plants, track down footprints, decipher tracks, recognise the animals you come across along the way... The many preserved and authentic treasures that abound in this nature reserve are revealed to walkers through the educational panels set up along the nature trail. As the seasons go by, the path changes its face as the many different plants blossom. With patience and discretion, it's not unusual to catch a glimpse of the mammals and birds that inhabit the forest.
You're right in the heart of the forest, opposite the Chambiers ponds, managed by the Maine-et-Loire Federation for Fishing and Protection of the Aquatic Environment (Fédération de Maine-et-Loire pour la Pêche et la Protection du Milieu Aquatique).
The Federation, which is keen to preserve the tranquillity of the site while at the same time enhancing the value of these ponds, which are listed as Sensitive Natural Areas, has specially developed the larger of the two (6.76 hectares) to open it up to sport fishing for black bass, with compulsory release of the fish.
While the smaller of the Chambiers ponds (0.5 hectares) is destined to become a food reserve, the larger one has been classified by the Prefecture as being in the second piscicultural category.
No toilets in the forest.
Picnic tables at the start of the circuit, at the entrance to the forest.
All shops, restaurants, campsites, motorhome parks and public transport in the centre of Durtal, around 4 km away.
