Based on the story of his mother, who, at the age of 15, crossed the Pyrenees on foot in the snow and under the bombs of German and Italian planes to escape the Spanish Civil War, Gerardo Jerez Le Cam imagines a musical narrative that retraces the migrants' journeys. Constructed as a popular "cantata" combining instrumental pieces and poetic songs, Cantos migrantes draws its influences from tango, Argentinian folklore, Balkan music and nomadic music from elsewhere. These inspirations are all songs of revolt that bear witness to the situation of oppressed populations forced to flee their countries. This repertoire constitutes a complex language in which the strength of feeling, thanks to the melodies, retains all its power.
