Presentation of: DESTINATION ARTISTIQUE "Detournement de matiere"

The Vie et Boulogne Tourist Office is opening its doors to artists from the region from Tuesday 3 September to Saturday 21 December 2024. After responding to a call for applications, 14 artists from the Vendée have been selected to exhibit their work and meet the public. To harmonise their work, we have grouped them under 5 themes.

For this fourth period, discover the work of :
- Sophie M., Sallertaine (paintings and sculptures)
Ever since I was a little girl, I've been drawing and painting all the time! And I'm fabulously lucky to be doing the job I dreamed of as a child...
1985 Certificate of Initiation in Fine Arts Beaux Arts Nantes / 1989 Degree in Fine Arts Université Rennes II.
1989, I began my artistic activity under the pseudonym Sophie M.. For ten years, I developed my work around illustration for children, then ephemeral decorations (2003 to 2013, creation of the decorations for the Fête du Livre Jeunesse d'Aizenay) and I embarked on the design of a fairytale and dreamlike universe.
In 2004, I moved to Sallertaine to set up the "Bidule, Coloquine & Cie" gallery workshop.
From miniature to large format, using dried decorative gourds, I create my Coloquines, plant fairies, round and sensual women, pampered and naughty, wise and seductive, musicians and night owls... I also paint on canvas, wood and paper, and work in volume, photography, installations, commissioned illustrations and children's workshops.

- Sylvie BENETEAU, La Roche-sur-Yon (paintings)
A self-taught painter, I have always loved to draw, and over the years I have evolved in a creative world. Painting allows me to express and share my emotions through my canvases.
Moving from the figurative to the contemporary, I vary the techniques according to my desires, without making a statement, associating materials and effects with my feelings at the time.
My creative process starts with a lot of inner work, then gives way to my spontaneity and total freedom of movement, playing with brushes, knives and various materials.
Today, I'm pursuing my artistic path with great humility, immersed in my world of colours.

- Maxime PATEAU, La Roche-sur-Yon (photographs)
I discovered photography at a post-baccalaureate film school. After several years of self-taught 'classical' photography, I turned to long exposure techniques, in particular lightpainting (LP). Lightpainting requires technical mastery, as photographic editing is forbidden. Lightpainting has taught me to get to grips with the photo beforehand, and to plan it in its entirety before taking it. It often takes several tries before a photo 'succeeds', and it requires a certain amount of choreography, because I'm a full participant in the photo as I move around within it.
The process of taking the photo is just as important to me as the final picture.
The wear(e)nature series was made using real leaves collected from the ground and real people present at the time of the photo, without any post-production editing.
