Presentation of: EXPOSITION "AU FIL DU PINCEAU"
J. Aimaire was born in 1939 in southern Vendée. He currently lives in Nantes. He began painting at the age of 10. Today, he has never really stopped.
At a very young age, he attended the Place des Vosges drawing school in Paris, then later spent several years taking evening classes at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Nantes. But above all he learned by obsessively visiting museums and exhibitions. The best role models are the masters of yesterday, and do we ever stop taking inspiration from the great people around us, all those artists, famous or unknown, who help us live so much?
"The Impressionists, the Cubists, the CoBrA group, the Australian Aborigines, African artists, Bram van Velde, Bissière, Chaissac, Estève, Bazelitch, Bacon and so many others! Aren't you all still my teachers?
As J Aimaire readily admits, even today at the age of 86, he knows how to do nothing other than reproduce - in his own way - what others have given him!
At the age of 86, he says, "I'm still learning every day, and in my mind I'm constantly attending all the schools of painting. Yes, in front of my blank canvas, I can feel that I'm still just an apprentice and that the "others" are there, always pushing me with their brushes! So, listening only to my eternal youth, I set off again. I float (I'm often reproached for it) unconsciously "through" the currents, I fight against the headwinds at the risk of getting lost and I constantly put off docking at a home port to satisfy the need for demanding new discoveries".
"Come on, little guy, hold on to the helm, it's been a long road. But you've got to believe that tomorrow you'll be able to paint for sure.
