Take part in the Folle Journée de Nantes!
Every year, a host of brass, woodwind, string and percussion instruments floods the Loire capital for the Folle Journée de Nantes (An Extraordinary Day in Nantes). Here are 3 good reasons to experience this unique event, which brings classical music to the masses.
1) A high-calibre programme
Almost 2,000 musicians from around the world offer 300 fantastic performances for 150,000 spectators! For five days, La Folle Journée de Nantes brings the cream of the classical crop to avid fans or those simply curious. Keen to make the event accessible to all audiences, the programmers opt for a short 45-minute format for the concerts. They also enjoy spicing up the festival with emerging talents, amateurs and even contemporary music artists, who take part in all sorts of exciting offerings!
2) A genuinely accessible event
Prices are affordable, with tickets ranging from 7 to 24 euros. The bandstand at the grand auditorium of the Cité des Congrès, the epicentre of the event, even puts on free concerts on an open stage, which hosts the amateur artists and renowned musicians taking part in that year's edition.
3) A strong theme each year
Every year, a common theme brings coherence and consistency to the event while opening up classical music to new horizons. In 2016 the theme was Nature, in 2015 it was The Passions of the Heart and Soul, 2014 was American Music and in 2012 it was Sacred Russia. 2017 is Time for Dance, and 2018 is all about Exile!
