Presentation of: Prieure Saint-Nicolas et memorial des Peris en mer

Open all year round for temporary exhibitions and events.

Built by the monks of Sainte Croix de Talmont in the 11th century, the priory was pillaged during the Wars of Religion, restored by Richelieu and transformed into a fort, guardhouse and powder magazine from the end of the 18th century to the end of the 19th century.
It was completely renovated in 2004.

Dominating the entrance to the port and protected by two long piers built in the 18th century, the priory, flanked by seven 18th-century cannons, offers a superb view over the bay.

Next to the Priory is the Mémorial des Péris en Mer, a monument to those lost at sea, created by mosaic artist Jacques Launois, a work of granite and schist evoking the force of the ocean's breakers. It is a place of remembrance and reflection for all families who have lost loved ones at sea.
