Presentation of: LE COTEAU DE LA BOULOGNE
This natural valley crossed by the River Boulogne stretches from west to east over almost 16 hectares. Comprising a hillside of chestnut trees, natural meadows interspersed with hedges of black locust, holly and field maple, this sensitive natural area is much more than a biodiversity site. The Boulogne hillside is also an ancient stronghold marked by the remains of a fortified castle, feudal mottes and, more recently, the chapel of the martyrs of Petit Luc. An old sunken path dotted with pedunculate oak trees allows you to discover the area.
In the heart of this natural site, you can take advantage of a variety of walking and cycling trails. Opposite this sensitive nature area, you can discover the Historial de la Vendée, a departmental museum, and its architecture perfectly integrated into the landscape. By crossing the Boulogne on the pedestrian footbridge below the Chapelle du Petit Luc, you can visit the Vendée Memorial, a building erected in memory of the Vendée genocide.
