Surrounded by two major canals, the Canal de Sablon and the Sèvre Niortaise, which separates the Charente-Maritime and Vendée departments, this island is located around 15km as the crow flies from the Baie de l'Aiguillon.
It is a wetland area, made up of terraces, woodland and undergrowth, and is home to a large number of species, both flora and fauna (grey heron, hobby falcon, genet, otter, etc.).
