Presentation of: MALLIEVRE PETITE CITE DE CARACTERE
Mallièvre, on its hillside overlooking the Sèvre nantaise, has preserved within its walls the memory of a brilliant past: medieval stronghold, stopover on the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela, weaving town...
Here, the remains of the medieval castle, the lofty mansions of the master weavers, the houses built on granite; there, the high dry-stone walls, the alleyways, the flower-filled rock gardens...
The old weaving village has not forgotten the activity that made it prosper. A dark, damp cellar is a reminder of the days when weaving was done by hand. After this heritage tour, the bucolic paths naturally lead back to the banks of the Sèvre, along quiet, green hillsides...
Guided tour every summer, every Tuesday at 6.15pm, starting from Point I in Mallièvre, Place des tisserands. Booking essential at the Tourist Office.
