Benedictine abbey built in the seventh century, it suffered numerous assaults over the centuries. The Benedictine Abbey erected on the Montglonne overlooking the Loire its fifty meters. The ancient abbey of Saint Florent Maurist the Old is a major monumental in Maine et Loire. The monastery of Saint Florent was implanted from the sixth century. At this century, the abbey is powerful. However, with the raids by the Normans from 850, and in 853 with their installation on the island pugnacious, monks are forced to run away. The abbey houses the tomb of Bonchamps for which was sculpted 'Forgiveness Bonchamps ' David D'Angers. Its glass roof allude to the Vendée wars.
