Construction of the Josephine Tower, named after the empress, began in July 1851, and its light was commissioned in 1852.
In the 1980s, the place was nicknamed "Arthon-Plage", a beach, by the locals.
Continuous guided tours in the afternoon (2pm-6pm) during the summer (1 July to 31 August).
